SSC H&T response to COVID-19
The Jordanian Government enacted a complete lockdown on March 17th 2020, accompanied by a closure of the airports, land borders, and sea borders to the country. As a result, COVID19 pandemic has had an unparalleled impact on the tourism and hospitality sector in Jordan, and continues to impact the sector and its recovery. As Queen Alia International Airport slowly resumed its operations in early September, the tourism and hospitality sector’s enterprises have slowly resumed their operations as well.
Since the onset of the COVID19 pandemic and lockdowns in Jordan, the National Sector Skills Council for Tourism and Hospitality (SSC H&T) has worked alongside the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to determine how the sector will reopen. Hence, the SSC H&T devised Standard Operating Procedures as the sector slowly reopens. These Standard Operating Procedures were validated by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
Second, the SSC supported the training of focal points at tourism enterprises on the Standard Operating Procedures.
Third, the SSC developed and released an online training program for work readiness that was made available through the SSCONLINE website, through which more than 8,000 people have been trained so far. To register in the training program or to learn more, click here.
